Google’s dongle equivalent to Apple TV
After competing in every other technological area they can find, Google’s latest gadget Chromecast is looking to rival Apple’s TV service, thanks to low cost and simplicity.
The dongle plugs into the television’s HDMI port and allowed users to stream media from portable devices including tablets and iPhones via a cloud service. Costing only £23 upon launch, Chromecast could be the product that finally places Google above Apple. For the last couple of years, Google has desperately tried to get their foot on the television ladder with failed attempts, including a set-top box with Sony and a Google TV service that required expensive hardware and suffered network issues.
The media, planned to include Netflix and Youtube, will be streamed via the cloud, unlike Apple TV which is straight from the device. Apparently this will allow for higher quality and less impact of battery life and is also compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
