New Apple automation likely to push their AV usage further
Apple have already managed to worm their way into the AV market with concepts originally based for the domestic environment and this latest patent they have been granted could see further advances into the industry.
Take the iPad for example. The iOS reminders app made it possible to control other electronic devices in the home, such as volume and lighting and it wasn’t long until commercial AV saw the possibilities, resulting in the iPad competing with control system giants AMX and Crestron.
This new technology will use the data from your Apple device to confirm your location and then perform in a similar way to a control system. By gathering the information from your movements and actions that day, including RFiD badges and even credit card links, the system will know where you have been, when to expect you back and therefore when and how to automate your environment.
Although the geo-fencing for the Reminders app is similar, this system is slightly more complex and will eventually require even less user input but it could be a couple of years until this concept reaches its reality, with the cost and set up of this infrastructure still a mystery. We plan to keep an eye on this technology, so please report back.
