Product spotlight: NEC FieldAnalyst
The analysis technology on show at the latest NEC Showcase may have been seen in certain retail environments but today, the FieldAnalyst software demonstrates that it could be an ideal research tool for other digital signage locations.
Using small video cameras, the solution detects human faces and estimates the gender, age and time they spent looking at the visuals. With the data collected in real-time, you can see whether your content is grabbing certain audiences and whether they are interested for a decent period of time. Obviously this sort of technology is ideal for shop windows but this could also be ideal for digital signage in restaurants, reception areas and so on, giving you not only information into your content but also a rough idea of the general audience entering and exiting your business.
At this particular display a 55” NEC P552 screen was integrated with the software and an i5 OPS PC. As you can see from the images collected by our employee Lily, it doesn’t read duplicates and one person can be estimated different each time. For example, at one point the FieldAnalyst estimates correctly that she is 22 and female however the next time she visits she is 26! Still it’s still proof of how much precision one can get despite such a simple concept.
